Choir Auditions

Immediate opening for soprano and tenor positions

The Episcopal Church of the Atonement has openings for soprano and tenor positions in the Schola next season. Auditions will be heard for all voice parts for inclusion on the substitute list.

Successful candidates should possess strong sight reading skills and the desire to sing in a chamber ensemble. The ideal candidate will be someone who is musically collaborative and willing to engage in a variety of musical styles, from early music to new music. This singer will enjoy singing one on a part, as well as fitting into an ensemble sound.

The Schola rehearses Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. for the 11 a.m. Solemn Mass. There are no weeknight rehearsals. Additional calls for weddings, funerals, and Evensong services may be available throughout the year. Music is distributed in advance. Singers are paid $115 per call.

Christmas Eve Midnight Mass and Holy Week/Easter are required.

The Schola sings liturgical music spanning several centuries including Renaissance polyphony, Anglican cathedral music, and contemporary composers. The choir sings a choral setting of the Mass Ordinary, Anglican chant, motets, anthems, and propers weekly.

Atonement is an inclusive Anglo-Catholic parish and part of the Diocese of Chicago with a strong musical tradition, including weekly choral mass and monthly evensong. Representative examples of past seasons may be viewed here.

The church is located in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North side of Chicago and is easily accessible by train, bus, and car.

To inquire or apply, email our music staff—Charlie Sega, Director of Music; and Dr. Christopher Windle, Associate Director of Music—with the subject heading "Staff Singer Position". Please include a resume or CV (with relevant choral experience) and a link to at least one recording (audio or video) of the candidate's solo singing; if any of these are not available, please summarize your musical background to the best of your ability.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and auditions will be scheduled upon receipt of materials.

Auditions will include singing at least one prepared selection of the candidate's choice, a prepared excerpt distributed in advance, an Anglican chant, and several sight-reading excerpts.
